Fall Quarter is upon us and I am about to start my second Photography course through the UCLA Design and Arts extension program. I completed the Photography I course last month, which means I’m 1/6 of the way to earning my UCLA Photography certificate.
BTW, my experience with the UCLA extension program has been very positive. The student learning portal is easy to use, the instructor has extensive real world experience and the modules are flexible enough to fit in with other life commitments. I highly recommend the program for anyone wishing to further their career or gain personal enrichment in an area they’ve always wanted to study. And a really neat payoff is that after earning your certificate you can attend an full graduation ceremony in LA and become eligible for UCLA alumni services and networks, which are extensive.
As for the Photography I course that I just completed, it was great. Although I’ve taken photos for more than a few decades, I’ve been mostly a run-and-gun shooter, who dabbled with manual exposure controls. Now I am much more conscious of the various settings on my camera and how they will affect the look and quality of whatever I’m shooting. And for the first time I feel comfortable around all the advanced settings buried deep in my camera’s menu system.
